If you scroll down my blog, you will find lots of information about the effects of work on people who live in refuges, hostels and other supported information.
Here is a post about single people, and here is one about parents.
The basic message is: Work, but not too much.
This is because, once you lose your Universal Credit, the Housing Benefit paid for your accommodation goes horribly wrong.
At long last, the government has recognised this problem, and is going to solve it by introducing an earnings disregard in Housing Benefit for supported accommodation.
Here’s what they said: To improve work incentives, the government is adjusting how earnings are treated for housing benefit and universal credit claimants in supported housing and temporary accommodation, so that most claimants will not be subject to reductions in income for working more hours.’
Super!
Fantastic!
Except: It won’t start until Autumn 2026; and I’m struck by the word most claimants.
We have no details yet, but I’ll be posting them as soon as they are announced.
